Accessorizing a headboard & a WINNER.

When we moved here, we bought an old door from the Habitat REstore, to use as our headboard.
We love it, but every time I take pictures of our bedroom, they always confirm how boring the room is.
The walls, the headboard and the lampshades are the same. Gah.
I’m sure you’re like us.
We have a list of things we would like to do in our house, but changing up the master bedroom isn’t a high priority.
This is when it’s good to have a husband who thinks creatively.
He recently added a huge piece of lumber to our mantle, and it gave him the idea to also use the old lumber to frame out our headboard.
He picked up the reclaimed barn posts from a grad student here at UGA who helps with a sustainability program.
He routed out the posts and the top beam so that it would perfectly case the door.
If you look closely, you can see how very old the barn posts look.
We thought it added some texture and dimension to our very boring backdrop.
This blog proves over and over to me {and all of you} that our house literally gets decorated in stages.
We actually enjoy piecing it together one project at a time…it seems like we like our choices longer.
What about you?
Before I head to my parents’ house this morning, I also wanted to let you know the winner of the $50 gift card!
Drum Roll, pllllleasse.
The lucky duck is Jackie, who left comment # 8.:)

Cassie @ Primitive & Proper - love your headboard- what a cozy room!

Yvonne @ StoneGable - What a beautiful and restful bedroom! I LOVE your headboard! So creative and so so interesting!!!! - Love it, Tara! So pretty.

Megan - Our bedroom needs some serious sprucing up. You are right, it always gets put on the back burner. I love the wood you added and so love that it has a story.

Gee Singh Newbanks - LUV the headboard. :-) Mine is a door as well. Also framed in dark wood. WE made it when we moved here 8 years ago.
Luv the look of your serene room..
Hugs, Gee

LLH Designs - I wouldn’t have thought of that in a million years (framing the door with reclaimed lumber), but it totally MAKES it! I love it! And I love that you and your husband seem to enjoy these things together. My husband is a million wonderful things, but we don’t share a vision for creative things around the house. Fun to see how some husbands have that gift. xo!

Lemonade Makin' Mama - Well I LOVe it. I think I’ve got it pinned somewhere but the update is even cuter. You and I need to shop together. We so often share a brain when it comes to home decor choices. Love your taste!! :)

Dana @ Cooking At Cafe D - It’s even more beautiful with the weathered wood.

Kelly Cach - Oh how lucky (blessed) you are to have a creative husband!!! Mine will change sheets at least :). So yeah…it’s stages for us (me) too….veeeery sloooow stages.

I recently found a similar headboard at a yard sale for our queen bed. It was so heavy, I had to leave it in the middle of the living room. Needless to say, hubby helped me get it upstairs and set up (tricky me). It is gorgeous and I LOVE IT!!! It just makes our bed look so tiny…it makes us both laugh :0. We need something at the foot of the bed…soooo glad to see your inspiration! Thank you :). So now I just need to find a real heavy trunk or gigantic bench for the middle of the living room…Hahahaha! ;)

Barbara Nelson - It makes it even better, what a great idea.

Tracy - Wow I love it!! That headboard is awesome, especially with the old lumber around it. Oh my if you saw our room…we built our home 16 years ago and our room has been the last one to get finished. Which in a way it’s worked out because I’ve changed my mind many times throughout the years. But wow I love your room…where did you get your dust ruffle? I just bought a white quilt and have been looking for a dust ruffle. I love yours!!

The Clark Crusade - Tara, your bedroom is so beautiful. I would love to know where you found your duvet cover and bed skirt. It all looks so restful and inviting.

Farmgirl Paints - I love every nook and cranny of your home. It’s definitely a stage thing. I’m redoing rooms one by one to finally get them finished and it’s been two years already.

Donna - I’m sure you will get tired of my comments as I’m just starting to look through your blog. Love your bedroom and really love the bedding. (The color and texture.) I am looking for something other than white. Do you know the name and brand of this bedding?
